Malcolm Hurlston, founder of the FCC said: "The problems of the self-employed in debt are more severe than those of people in employment. There is normally confusion between their business and private lives and it is often their business rather than life problems which causes their problems."
Like all CCCS services it is entirely free at all points to the consumer. CCCS asks neither clients nor the state for any funds; it receives goodwill contributions from lenders but, as a charity, its dedication is to its clients.
The free phone number is 0800 975 9559. The lines are open from 8 am to 8 pm. A telephone counselling appointment can be arranged in two to three weeks, during which clients will need to assemble their financial information. CCCS has found this is particularly difficult for the self-employed who may not have kept perfect records.
Mr Hurlston said:"The counsellors are familiar with the particular needs of the self-employed and can give the best advice on the way forward whatever it might be.”
